Submission guidelines

There are still over two months left until the submission deadline, but I know a few of you are already close to winding down, so I'm going to go over the submission guidelines right now. Please make sure you read everything here carefully, especially if you're a first-time fest participant!

First of all, reread the rules if you can't remember the fic/art requirements regarding quality, grammar, and betaing. We plan to have proofreaders, but if your submission is riddled with errors, it will be sent back for further editing.

1. Any time you email us, please include your LJ username in the subject line. As we approach the deadline, submissions and questions will start pouring in, and we don't want your email to get lost. The following format is preferable:

SUBMISSION, username
EXTENSION, username
DROP-OUT, username
QUESTION, username

2. Authors should send their fics attached as a .doc (preferred), .docx, or .txt file. Do not copy/paste it into the body of the email. Remember that it should be properly formatted, with all the necessary html tags (e.g. < b >, < i >, < u >, < blockquote >, etc.). Artists should either attach their submissions or upload them to an image hosting website. We don't have our own server, but we'll probably use FileDen or another file hosting site to host the art.

3. Likewise, we won't be able to host longer fics off LJ. If your fic is longer than 10k words, indicate where it needs to be split up in the file, otherwise we'll just close our eyes and pick a spot.

4. Fill out this header template and make sure it's somewhere in the file or the email.

Extensions and drop-outs

First of all, if you're considering either of these, MAKE SURE YOU EMAIL US RIGHT AWAY. Giving us time to prepare for the worst and/or do damage control is the most considerate thing to do.

Our extension policy is listed in the rules. As stated, it will be very strict considering the amount of writing time allowed and the fact that this is a small-scale fest. Most participants will be limited to one one-week extension. However, if you have a good reason as to why you need more time, we will certainly take that into consideration. Just let us know as soon as possible, so we're not left wondering what happened to you after the deadline passes.

Obviously, we'd prefer it if you didn't drop out (and in no way are we advocating it by including this bit of information), but if you absolutely can't continue in the fest, let us know immediately. Dropping out last minute is bad fest form, and doing so could give you a bad reputation among fest mods. The sooner you let us know, the better chance your recipient has of receiving a gift from a pinch hitter.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here or email us at ngfestmods@gmail.com, and we'll be glad to help you out :)
