2018 Fest Announcement

Hello friends! It's been awhile!

This announcement for the 2018 run of hp_nextgen_fest is coming a bit later than usual, as life has been pretty crazy for your mods, and we weren't sure if we'd be able to run the fest this year during its usual slot. However, salvation came to us in the form of the lovely silveredglass, who's offered to help co-mod during this busy time of year. We hope you will all join us in welcoming her to the mod team! You can find this year's schedule below, along with a couple of changes for this year's fest.

2018 Schedule
Prompting: August 6-17
Claiming Opens: August 20
Works Due: October 22
Posting Starts: November 5
Reveals: November 30

A note on the changes...

We have created a Tumblr blog for this fest, and we plan to run the fest on both Livejournal and Tumblr. We will not be posting any fics, nor hosting any art, on Livejournal. All fic and art will be exclusively posted to AO3, with headers on both Livejournal and Tumblr linking to the works. For prompting and claiming, you will have the option to interact with Livejournal posts as has been traditionally done, or to prompt & claim via google form and bypassing Livejournal entirely.

This year, we will not be using Dreamwidth as anything other than a backup. The lack of scheduling ability unfortunately makes Dreamwidth an impossibility for us to functionally utilize it for fest moderation, and the interaction with our posts on dreamwidth last year was very low. Given our other commitments and responsibilities, it's just not the best use of our limited time. We are offering the Tumblr version in the hopes that those who have migrated away from Livejournal will feel more comfortable with an option that allows them to participate without interacting with Livejournal in any way. Of course, headers for your works will be posted to livejournal, in addition to tumblr, so we understand if that's still not something you're comfortable with. We have tried our best to make changes that will allow for greater participation, while keeping the workload at a reasonable level for us as mods. If the fest runs again next year, it's very likely that we'll be phasing out livejournal entirely.

Thank you for your understanding as we make these necessary modifications to the fest. We hope to see you all at the beginning of August for prompting! Keep an eye out for banners in the next several weeks!
